London is an enchanting place. The history, the culture, the royalty. But its true magic centers on it’s deep connection to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Which means that no trip to London would be complete without a journey to Diagon Alley and Platform 9 3/4!
But you don’t have to be a Potterhead to enjoy the magic of J.K. Rowling’s most famous creation. There’s a little bit of Harry Potter magic for the mugglest of muggles to those of us still desperately waiting for our letter to arrive.
The Quick Fix
Located in the famous Kings Cross Station and very easy to find, Platform 9 3/4 is a must see! There’s a little Harry Potter shop with some Platform 9 3/4 specific gear and a perfectly magical photo opt.
Just outside of the store, there’s a trolly halfway through the brick wall. Staffers have house scarves for you to put on as you jump through the wall to catch the Hogwarts express. Don’t worry about paying for the professional copy because they’re totally cool with you taking photos on your own device.
For the Casual Fan
Walking across the Harry Potter Bridge (a.k.a the Millennium Bridge) is a great way to see the famous sites of London and to get your magical fix.
There are many ways to get to the Bridge. We decided to do a big loop from our hotel. We started by walking across the Tower Bridge. Then explored the South Bank until we got the Millennium Bridge. After checking for dementors, we walked across to St. Paul’s. Then back to the hotel.
For the Movie Watcher and the Potterhead
The Warner Bros. Studios Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter is perfect for the casual movie watchers or the obsessed Potterheads . The Studio Tour is a tour of the actual sets and props from all eight movies. Discover the Great Hall to Diagon Alley and everything this else magical in between.
The studio is located just a short train ride out of London and very easy to get to (just follow the directions on the website). Once you get off the train the Knight Bus is ready to transport you to your magic adventure.
The Ultimate Magical Experience
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is hands down the most magical experience in London. The genius of J.K. Rowling comes to life on stage in a way unimaginable. Even my muggle husband was in awe!
Now if you don’t want to spend all your galleons on tickets, you have to plan ahead. Like really far ahead. I bought our tickets for July 2016 in October 2015. Currently, all of the ticket directly from the show are sold out and they will sell out as soon as they are released. So I suggest signing up for their newsletter so you’ll be notified when more tickets go on sale.
Our Harry Potter inspired adventures were pure magic. My inner fan girl was in Potter heaven. And I am already planning our next magical tour.
Don’t keep all the secrets!
